Get paid online with payment links

Switch on online payments to add a Pay Now button to every invoice, and claim your own payment link to share anywhere — plus what the fees are.

The easier it is to pay you, the faster you get paid. A payment link is simply a web page where your customer pays you by card, on the spot — no typing out banking details, no waiting on proof-of-payment screenshots. Switch on online payments once and every invoice can carry a Pay Now button — and your business gets its own standing payment link for quick jobs and social-media sales, no invoice needed. The money lands in the bank account you choose.

Turn on online payments

Head to SettingsOnline Payments and click Get started — the setup walks you through it. The one real decision is the bank account your payouts land in; then accept the fees and activate. Online payments are available on every plan.

stub may also email you to verify your identity — a standard FICA check — and you'll need to complete it before you can receive payments.

What it costs

Fees depend on your plan, and are shown on SettingsBilling:

  • Sneaky Side Hustle — South African cards: 4.5% + ZAR 2; International cards: 4.7% + ZAR 2
  • Growing Business — South African cards: 3.5% + ZAR 2; International cards: 3.7% + ZAR 2

Online payments are processed in South African Rand. If you take a lot of card payments, the lower fees on Growing Business (Pro) can pay for themselves.

Add a Pay Now button to an invoice

On the invoice, turn on Online payments in the Options panel on the left — like every option there, it's off until you switch it on.

Everyone who opens that invoice — by email or by link — sees a Pay Now button. It pairs naturally with Create and send an invoice: send the invoice, and the payment route travels with it.

Take payment for a quick job or a social-media sale without drafting an invoice at all.

Head to SettingsOnline Payments and claim your handle — your link becomes stub.africa/@yourhandle. Share it on WhatsApp, in an email, in your bio, anywhere. Anyone who opens it can enter an amount and a reference and pay you on the spot. You can also sell specific products through the link — set those up under Products & Services.

Note: The open link is for small amounts — payments through it are capped (R250 by default; the exact limit shows on the settings page). For anything bigger, send an invoice or a product payment link.

If payments get locked

If stub spots high-risk transactions on your account, online payments are switched off and you will see a warning on SettingsOnline Payments and on your Insights dashboard. Get in touch with support to sort it out.

Pro tips

  1. Point it out. Add a line to your invoice message telling customers about the Pay Now button — plenty of people default to a manual EFT out of habit.
  2. Test it. Send yourself a small invoice and pay it, so you know exactly what your customers see.
  3. You never touch card details. Payments run through a PCI-compliant gateway.
